Abstract

Hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction (HFLP ME) and dispersive microextraction (DME) are used for preconcentration and separation of methyl-, ethyl- and propyl-parabens from aqueous matrices for their determination by capillary gas chromatography (GC). Sample preparation conditions are investigated. It is shown that the best organic solvent for HFLP ME is toluene, for DME chloroform was used as extracting solvent and acetone as dispersive solvent. Optimized HFLP ME was carried out for 15–20 min in presence of 10–20% aqueous solution of NaCl at pH 4.0–6.0. For DME optimum volume of extracting solvent is 50–100 ml and volume of dispersive one is 300–800 ml. The pH range is slightly narrower (5.5–7.0) for DME than for HFLP ME. Other extraction parameters are the same. The comparison between HFLP ME and DME was carried out using limit of determination (LOD). It was shown that LODs of parabens using DME are lower than for HFLP ME. In particular, limits of detection of parabens are 0.30–0.32 mg/L and 0.12–0.15 mg/L using HFLP ME and DME, respectively. Some samples of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics were analyzed by GC/PID using developed method of dispersive microextraction with relative standard deviation from 1.6 to 14.1%.
